September 2011 to March 2012 – 10 meetings.

The next series of skill-sharing silk painting sessions will start on Wednesday 14^th September and end on Wednesday 14^th March, allowing for a break in December and early January.

There are no sessions during August as this reflects the wishes of some members.

These meetings follow the usual pattern of 2^nd and 4^th Wednesday in the month (except for December and January) and are from 1pm till 4pm.

It is hoped that this arrangement can continue with increased numbers of members being able to attend.

The cost will remain at £30 for the block of 10 sessions.

Dates: September 14 & 28, October 12 & 26, November 9 & 23,

January 25, February 8 & 22, March 14.

The exhibition at Mugdock has had to be cancelled due to lack of participants. Very few members indicated in the questionnaire they had silk items to exhibit or could help out during the exhibition.  Fortunately the Park is not going to charge for the rooms as Agnes is helping them out with activities over the summer.

2.   Frances Hider offered 6th of August as a date for her workshop.  More information about this and booking forms will be posted out to members ASAP. Application form and information is in the Events Post above.

3.  There will be a break over summer for the Silk Painting sessions in Milngavie CE Centre.  These hopefully will resume, depending on numbers, in September.

The Milngavie CE Centre will carry on till July then there will be a break until mid September.  The large room has been booked but if less than 10 folk pay to attend the classes then this arrangement shall have to be canceled.  The funds cannot support under-utilised meetings, as funds for Branch money need to be spent on all members, insurance, equipment, website, material and subsidising workshops  as well as attracting new members.

It will start at 10am and run till 4pm.

As there will be no cafe facilities, please bring a packed lunch.

Coffee, tea and biscuits will be available throughout session.

The cost which includes all materials and equipment will be £40 to Branch Members and £50 to non members

There are only 8 places on this course so early booking, along with payment, is essential.

SEASON’S COLOURS

a one day silk painting course with Frances Hider

Taking inspiration from the changing season this course spotlights the use of colour and the skills of the silk painter. Colour choice, mixing and blending are included in the day’s activities. This is also a course which aims to develop your skills as a silk painter so will include both group and individual tuition on methods of resist and use of steam fix dyes.

This is a project based course which will focus on the design and achievement of two complementary wall hangings (diptych). Students will work on frames of about 18” x 18” and a canvas of habotai or pongee silk.

Students can use either tutor generated project material or may wish to develop their own creative ideas. This is a course suitable for all levels of experience.

The date by which work must be submitted for the exhibition will be published here and in the members’ newsletter.

Members are requested to help with setting up the exhibition on Friday 1st  July.

Silk Painting Demonstration

After the business part of the meeting there will be an opportunity for members to enjoy a demonstration by our Guest Tutor, Frances Hilder.

Frances will demonstrate Colour Blending and how to achieve depth and light in your silk paintings.

Members are also invited to bring samples of work which can be shown and discussed in a problem-solving session. This will be a useful opportunity for members to share and discuss techniques.

There is a cafe next to the room on the ground floor where coffee and snacks can be purchased.

Access is suitable for all.
